Anyone out there running a 2.5 litre CVT, i suggest you get it into the dealer pronto for the free upgrade - Audi warranty finishes at 60K, my clutch went at 70K. They should do the upgrade for free (in the UK at least.)

Well bugger me (not really),

I have exactly the same problem with mine. I have an A6 2.5tdi multitronic.

At around 1400 - 1600 with moderate to low acceleration, i get this judder which was so bad at one stage the whole car shook.

Took it to the local Audi in Lincoln, who say they took it out for a test drive and can't find anything wrong with it. funny old thing!!!

I Guarantee it's the clutch slipping - just out of interest, what mileage you got?

Juddering started at around 12,000. I'm now on 18,000

Why do you ask?

Another question, how could I get Audi to agree to fix this fault without having an arguement over weather there is a fault or not?

I'm tired of taking cars to garages only for them to take it for a test drive only to find nothing wrong.

Anybody else in the same boat?

Ok took my car back to the workshop today 19th October 2005, thay phoned me at home at around 5pm. They say they can't find a problem with it, and the data they read out of the cars ECU are all within spec.

So there seems that there is bugger all I can do about it.

Is this problem only for the manual transmissions because I have an automatic 2.8 A6 and I'm experiencing the same problem. Can someone let me know how this can be?

If you have the CVT, then you've almost certainly got the same problem i had - see above. I don't believe this is a problem on the manual, since it only has one clutch. Don't know if this problem can be experienced on the regular tiptronic auto though.

I have a 2002 a4 1.8t, that I bought on the certified used problem program. It has 62k miles and just starting shuttering, a small one at about 10mph and a good one at about 20mph. I plan to contact them about it, I need what to say.

Bought my Certified Pre-owned 2003 Audi A6 less than 2 months ago. Put less than 1000 miles on it (it had 37k when I bought it) and experienced this studdering problem. They are telling me transmission problems but that the engine is supsect too! What the heck is Audi doing about this? Please email me if you are experiencing this problem. I already have an attorney because someone needs to be held responsible.

Mmm this is indeed interesting, I was thinking about buying a CVT Audi I think Multitronic is the correct description (why do americans have to invent an acronim for europian technology) but this is disappointing. So can I conclude that this is a flawed design and are ther more broken ones than not broken ones and that the not broken ones will eventually be broken long before the engine wears out. I have a tiptronic A6 and that is giving me an uncomfortable feeling like something is going to break soon feeling about the car that i cant quite put my finger on and this thread confirms my suspicion that engine technology has progressed much more than gearbox technology in the audi world. I'll put the word out that multi, tip and auto audis are to be avoided if you want to avoid serious ownership bills.
Anyone want a tip A6 avant that still works (today)? - me i'll go back to clutches next time - unless its Jap of course.
