Looking To Buy An A6, But Which One?

Hi all, I am looking at buying a used A6 and would be grateful of any information that anyone can give me, I am trading in my trusty Mitsubishi FTO for something with a bit more comfort but trying to retain a bit of power and the A6 fits straight into that category, I can hear all of you scream R6 at the screen but that's a bit to rich for my blood.

I own a 2.7T six speed A6, so naturally I am going to recommend this model. Even in automatic version, this is a great engine. The 4.2 has comparable power; however, I think it feels "heavy" in the front end. That is just my opinion. The best advice is to test drive as many engine and transmission options as you can and decide what feels best to you. All the A6 models are great.

[font=Arial]Well due to the fact that I just bought a 4.2 I'm a little biased. I've read that the 2.7 may be quicker off the line, but the 4.2 does its job on the highway. Simple engine mods will increase 0-60 times. I also like the body lines of the 4.2 that are not offered on other models.

If you are buying from a dealership. Audi is offering 0% financing on all 2001 a6 models. They are taking trade for the 05 model.

Something to think about.

very good point.. the 4.2 has larger wheel wells which looks very nice

my recommendation: if you're looking for a car you can mod, get a 2.7T. If you're looking for a manual trans, get a 2.7T (manual isnt available in the 4.2). If you're looking for a good cruising car, and want to keep it stock, get a 4.2. On another note, 2.7T gas mileage is slightly better than a 4.2

I agree. I have the 4.2 Q sport and there are not a lot of mods available. That's OK with me since I like the car stock anyway. Are'nt the brakes and Tiptronic different than the 2.7T offering?

i dont think so... 4.2 tip would have lower shift points programed becaues of the more powerful engine but same trans as far as i know.
