Hello,
I am a new member to this forum and own a 2001 a6 avant 1.9 tdi. I have recently noticed that the carpet in the passenger footwell is very wet and wondered if anyone can shed any light on the problem, or has had a similar experience. I am interested to hear any comments Cheers G |

Sounds like your heater matrix is leaking mate or if its not that the membrane in the door has probably come off and the water is coming down through the door and into the car rather than out of the drain holes. Put a hose on the window then feel the inside of the door at the bottom. If its wet it's your birthday and a much cheaper and easier repair.
Hope this helps Rob |

Just had the same thing happen to me in my '98 A6. We've had several days of heavy rain and when I went up a seep incline today---a stream of water came pouring in under the dash through the vent onto the passenger side floor. Looked under the hood and under the cover where the battery, etc. are stored, and the whole compartment apparently had filled with water. Of course, it isn't full now because so much of it had POURED INTO MY CAR! Anway, I'm assuming there's a drain in there somewhere that may be blocked. In the process of trying to find it now... Will let you know if I find something. In the meantime, anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, anyone else SOLVE this problem??

I have had exactly the same problem - and fixed it.
There are a couple of things to check first though. Make sure that your drainage holes are clear - under the battery and at the sides below the wind screen. If these are OK check that the trim which fits on at the bottom of the wind screen is flush / tight fitting with the windscreen. Mine wasn't and water was rolling under into the pollen filter and down into the passenger foot well. I replaced the housing for the pollen filter and the trim that fits at the bottom of the window and all is well. Apparently it's a common fault that the trims need replacing. I now have a squeak from the around steering colum - like something is rubbing - when I turn right. So if anyone can help me out with this I'd be pleased...... |

Had the same problem and managed to fix it. After a heavy rain I had the whole right part of the interior sunk by 10-15 cm of water!!! The carpets on the left were also wet.
The water gets into the car via the air ducts under the driver's and passenger's seats. That's the lowest point in the ventilation system. Of course, water shouldn't get into the ventilation at first . Anyway, in my case, the problem was the trim that fits on the bottom of the windscreen. It should be well fitted. When I replaced my battery, I had to remove the trim and I wasn't too careful when putting it back. Minor mistake, major consequences! The pollen filter case was also cracked at the bottom. I only had to fit the trim properly and to glue the crack in the case, and the problem was gone. You should check these 2, the problem is most likely there. Also, fix this problem ASAP, cause under the windscreen, opposite to the pollen filter box, lies the computer box. Its position is similar, and it might be prone to the same problem. And you don't want water in that!!! You should also check this link: http://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/463444.phtml It seems this is a common problem... |

Thanks you for the info..I had the same problem with my 02 allroad..2 rainstorms in a row..the 1st time my passenger side floor was drenched and warning lights for the suspension and brakes were somehow tripped..definitely scary..
as usual, this kind of stuff happens on the Friday before a holiday weekend..so no chance of dealer service,,using a shop vac and a hair drier, I got it dried out and everything seemed to work fine again..1 week later, another rainstorm..this time, of all things, the windshield wipers stopped while on the NY thruway,..scary..I opened the hood and notice the battery compartment looked like a lake.. got to my destination and started feeling around for a clogged drain outlet.. found it between then battery and brake fluid res..using my finger, I was able to unclog(pine needles) and the water gushed out under the car,,the wiper motor was submerged and this must have been the problem..after it dried, seems to be working fine...BUT>>Why don't the dealer service advisors know of this..shouldn't Audi send out a service bulletin telling them to check this badly designd drain for debris when in for maintenance..I still love the car, but don't those high tech Audi engineers know about gravity, water, and pine needles??? |

Did you replace the speakers or add an amp to your car? Were you too lazy to run the cords/wires thru the gromet in your firewall and just run them thru the door instead? This screws up your door seal and lets water in when it rains. My friend did this on his car, that's why I mention it.
