A little more oomph?

Hello,

I recently bought a '95 A6 quattro wagon, 2.8L 12v.

I'm very pleased with it, and it runs well, but it's rather on the slow side. (My previous car was a Saab 9000 2.3T, so I was spoiled. ) In comparison, the Audi is, um, grandfatherly.

Is there a performance chip or something that can cheaply provide a useful boost in power without threatening the longevity of the engine, or trashing the gas mileage? The products offered on eBay make wild claims which leave me uneasy... I'd rather have a recommendation from someone who's tried a product and found it to be a good 'un.

I'm not looking for hot-rod performance - just a little more pep for normal driving.

For the 12v there is nothing other than a exhaust which will give you very a little.
