Hi, Everyone - Glad to be a new member! I'm now driving my third Audi, a 1996 A6 without Quattro. Have thought about updating but I absolutely love this model, especially the body styling. With Hakke's all around, it has always been a great winter car even without AWD. For several months I have been having problems with the Check Engine Light. We have been through all the O2 sensors, found grounded wires, etc., etc. Thought we had it fixed about a month ago but the light came on just a few days back. This Audi only has 100K miles. I'd welcome some advice if anyone has experienced similar problems. Many thanks in advance.

I've had many problems with this warning light. If the car is running fine but the lite stays on, it could still be your O2 sensor. Are you running the highest octane you can get? I found in the past that my check engine light would come on if I used a lower octane. It did however reset itself within a few days. If it stays on, get it checked.

Hello! I am new to this sight and just so happened upon this particular problem and was also having issues. I had my light come on a few times as well and have been dissapointed in that every time I have taken it to the repair shop I spend what seems to be $300 - 500 every time replacing something different and having the light come on once again!! My problem was when I went to fill up, get back in the car to start it, it wouldn't start. First thought it might be the fuel pump, then the fuel relay unit(?), sensors, etc. I went to another audi place and they have finally told me to not fill up my tank all the way when I go to fill up again. Now they think it may be some evap. tank that when you fill up the tank too full that it senses this and tells the car not to start. Anyone ever heard of this? Otherwise, I have had other issues but overall really have enjoyed the car. Thanks for any help.

Glad to hear others are having this problem!? My 1998 2.8 Quattro has had all O2 sensors replaced due to this light, but the light has come back on. The car still runs great, and the shop isn't much help for suggestions. I would love advice if anyone has any?

My Mechanic says my problem is some gunk in the EGR valve. He said they could fix it, but, unless the light starts blinking, it should be ok. If it starts blinking STOP and have it checked out.

Saying that you have a check engine light on without knowing the code is like trying to fix the world pokitics.

Get a VAG Com and see what the code # is -- then do the fix!
