Default Money back from dealership???

i guys, about a month ago I decided to upgrade from my Lexus IS300 to a 2008 DG B7 A4. I was wondering if any of you had traded in your cars and got more money than you owed and how long you had to wait for the left over money to come back to you from the dealer. The dealer gave me $8000 for the car and I only owed $3600. I put $2200 down, and the closer put my payoff for my trade at $5800 so I would get the extra $2000 back after the trade-in had been paid off. But I don't know how long I needed to wait before putting in a phone call.

Thanks guys for your help...
