I have tried many times with no luck. Thanks in advance for any help

Hey tru2hapi....I had a similar problem, but further compounded by the fact that my fog light lens was also broken so I had to replace the whole unit.
Here is what I learned (my car is a US model ) On the US cars there is NO logical way to access the rear of the fog light assembly without removing the entire lower bumper! The main reason being the stupid lights are basically installed backwards, thereby eliminating any chance of servicing them from the front by removing said plastic trim.
I took a stab at removing the lower bumper and stopped myself before I broke something more expensive, and let my Audi shop fix it...about $120, not counting the bulb.
Another way I tried was to remove the belly pans under the engine, however once done you will find that the intercoolers are conveniently blocking access to the bulb harness.
The only thing I have heard that is positive, but can't verify is that if your hands are small enough, apparently you can reach in & around the intercooler vents enough to twist open the bulb harness....good luck!
