Default new A4 - grinding feeling when shifting into first gear

I just brought a new, 2008, 6-speed A4 home today. When I'm shifting into first from a stop, when the clutch pedal is about halfway up, I've been noticing a grinding feeling in the pedal. It's not a grinding noise (cannot hear it), or a judder shaking the car, only a grinding feeling in the pedal when it's halfway up. I notice it more if I'm accelerating gently, less if I shift into first very quickly. The same thing happens to a lesser degree when I shift into second. It doesn't happen at all shifting into higher gears or into reverse.

At first I thought I was just unaccustomed to the transmission (have not driven Audi manual transmissions before except on test drives), but I want to make sure it's me and not the car. I don't remember noticing this when I test drove Audis, but I could have overlooked it at the time because I thought I was just not shifting optimally.

I had a friend drive it--the friend could feel what I was talking about, but didn't think it felt alarming.

Is this something I should be concerned about? I hope you say no, but I definitely want to know if it is....
