Default 2005 A4 2.0Tdi 140BHP New model

Hello all !

It's my first time here...changed my car to the above yesterday and I must say it's fab! I bought it privately off a lady who kept it in very good condition. I have one question, however: when I turn the key to start, the message "BREMSE" flashes on the display. I have googled this word and got nothing. Can anybody tell me what it means?
Many thanks

Thanks Badger,
I am going to get the car serviced soon so they can look at the brakes (even though they are fine). How could I get the dash recoded to english?
Thanks,
Mike

Talking Greetings from Cork!

Hi Michael,

Good to see another Irishman on here, it's a good place to find and share ideas.

What colour did you go for?

I have an A4 Avant (Black metallic 2007 Sline) love the car, great handling and quality.
115bhp, but would love the 140bhp engine.

Im in Cork, where are you?

John

Hi John
I'm a Roscommon man living in Drogheda! Had a VW passat for 3 years before the Audi. I bought it privately last Saturday from a lady from Monaghan through carzone.ie. I was told that I was taking a slight risk (no warranty etc.) but the car looked great and the test drive went fab! The car has a fair bit of work done, 80K Kilometres, but has a full service history. She asked €30K, but I haggled her down to €27K and we shook hands. It a nice car. If you give me your email address I will send you the photos,
Cheers,
Mike

I wouldn't worry too much as it is probably just one of the pads that has just worn down to the indicator. This warning will appear way-way before any danger or damage is present. I put Bremse in google and it found it straight away.
Out of interest, I have the same car, whats your MPG like or is it too early to tell.

Hi Roley,
Thanks for the reply. Yeah I'm still working out what the mpg is. I will let you know as soon as I've worked it out. The dash display is in KM so I will convert! I have always thought in miles and still do, but in Ireland now all the road signs/speed limits etc. are in KM which is a bit of a bummer! Anyway I love the car, if you want to see a photo or 2, pm me ur email address,
mike

Hi Micheal,

Lovely car- well wear.

Definitely think the 18" alloys would be a good choice. Fill out the wheel arches nicely.
Don't think you shoud worry about the small difference the bigger wheels will make to the rolling circumferece.

I've added pics of mine to my garage, check em out. I have 18" alloys, they look great (S-Line has lowered sports suspension) but youo have to be eagle eyed to avoid pot holes.

I too had a passat before my A4, I put 17" alloys on it so I know what it's like to dent and crack them on the 3rd world style Irish roads.

They did set the car off nicely though. I bought them from a guy in Scotland, they are genuine VW alloys designed for the passat 4-Motion. Looking to sell them now - know anyoe who would be interested?

When driving easy (long journey, in steady traffic at 60mph) my one gets up to a 50mpg average. I drove a "fast" 100 mile journey from Wexford to Cork the other day and still averaged over 45mpg!

They say that the cars improve with mileage.

at 80k km, your car is still very fresh, that's only 50k miles!

I'm thinking of selling my 2006 A4 Avant SE 140 TDI with 22,000 miles for less than that. Should I bring it to Eire to get a better price? To change the display on the DIS see page 41 of the handbook. Also suggest that you make a manual check of the level in the brake fluid reservoir just to be sure.
