Default advice on buying from a audi dealer

I'm looking at buying a 07 plate ex-demo model A4 Avant TDI S-line Special Edition from a main dealer. The sticker price is £26000. Obviously I'd like to pay less....has anyone got any recent experience on what might be a realistic bargining ploy to drop the price? I wonder what sort of margin of profit they have on that and how much wiggle room there might be. Also instead I could ask for some things thrown in but as this is a used car then there isn't much in the way of extras I could ask for. Does anyone have any suggestions for obtaining the best deal?

Look on Auto Trader UK - Buy & Sell New & Used Cars, Car Loans, Car Insurance
Print off the car you like.
Take it to your local dealer and he will sell it to you for the same price.
Audi dealerships buy or exchange cars.
Your local dealer will prefer that you spend your money there instead of somewhere else.
I bought my A6 Avant 3.0 TDI S-Line at a dealership in Sheffield but bought it from the Hereford dealership using the same method.
I even got them to include the Load restrain kit, the Stoneguard and refurbish one scuffed alloy. I got my car for £4000 less than the best price the Hereford dealer had on offer.
There is an A4 Avant TDI S-Line bellow as an example. 07 model for £20995
Auto Trader UK - The page you were looking for could no be found=

Assuming that the Auto Trader price already includes the used car warranty that main dealers throw in, then yes, you'd probably get it at the same price or less. I also agree with your point that dealers exchange or trade cars with each other and therefore you 'may' be able to play one dealer off another by having the second dealer purchase the same car using their 'internal trade' price and then selling it to you for a lower margin.

HOWEVER... and here comes the but... you are dealing with an ex-demo, not a 'used car' in the sense of a part-exchange. Ex-demos tend to be much desired and easier for the dealers to shift. Further (and this also applies to part-exchanges), so long as the vehicle in question has more than a few enquiries, and so long as the primary dealership is confident that it will be able to sell the car at retail, it will have now reason to 'sell it off' at a lower 'internal trade' price to another dealer to enable that other dealer to make a marked-up profit, albeit that the final price may represent a lower profit for that second dealer. In addition, enquires from other dealer could sometime have the effect of 'pushing' the price up/ maintaining the primary dealer's bargaining strength in knowing that the particular car has an increased demand. Very often, the primary dealer will refuse to sell a car that it know it itself can shift quickly.

If this was indeed a well presented demo, instead of a straight price drop, I would ask for (i) an increase in your part-exchange or (ii) free stuff. I'm sure there's free stuff that you can ask for that's not already fitted on this demo.

Anyway. Good luck.

I thought it might be useful to post how I got on in case anyone else was looking at doing the same thing...

I basically got about a grand knocked off the car after some quite hard haggling. I wanted the car for 24K really but had to pay 25K - sticker price was 26K. That included the GAP insurance which seemed a good idea etc. It was a fully loaded ex-demo 07 car with 2500 on the clock. Sat Nav, heated seats, black optic treatment, etc. Didn't have cruise control but I wasn't too bothered about that in the UK anyway. Paid cash for it.

He wasn't moving at all on the price and then I started to walk away mentioning BMW 320s etc....at which point we managed to sort a deal out.
