Default SatNav CD v Dvd and TV Reception

I'm thinking of upgrading my Bose Symphony to the OEM SatNav. If it's still even available, would there be a huge difference between the DVD and CD system? I take it that the CD system is certainly going to be more affordable (or I can even get it 2nd hand). Can I get TV on the CD version? Regardless of CD or DVD, for those of you with the TV tuner, what is the reception like around London when on the move? I'm thinking of getting a tuner with my CD/DVD screen mostly for the 'traffic jams' heading into the city in the morn - which is why I'm not so concerned with getting the latest DVD sat-nav (I don't really need the sat nav function as much as I want to have a TV).

Any comments much appreciated.

I had TV on an E46 BMW M3 and the reception on it was absolutely rubbish in a built up area, and barely tolerable anywhere else. It's what prevented me spending GBP700 on same on my RS4. I stand to be corrected if the Audi system is spectacularly better, but my quite deep knowledge of TV aerials would suggest that the required signal strength for decent reception is going to be very limited from two 2 foot wires in sheet of glass, relying on a reflected signal (i.e. from buildings etc) with no line of sight to a transmitter. And, remember, it's not Freeview either (which actually needs an EVEN better signal) so you have limited channel choice. I really really would wait for someone to tell you I'm talking rubbish and that it works real well before using this as a justification to install all this kit.

Of course, if you live in a car park under crystal palace, it might be ok...

Thanks RJKflyer. I suspect that reception on the move could well be doggy. Having said that, I have had opportunities to drive a Range Rover Vogue with TV, and while stationary (disabled by default when on the move), it was impressive. However, I guess you cannot compare the 'reception' from a Range Rover - which has the antenna on it's roof with what I can expect to get from my cabrio!!

Thanks again for your comments and I'll see what others have to say.

What about the CD vs DVD system?
