Default TMC in SatNav - what's the story

Have a 2006 RS4 with full SatNav. The TMC logo has a line through it , meaning inoperative. The Audi dealer says that the functionality of the TMC is 'being addressed' by an upgrade of the software. Apparently under warranty, but 'at Audi's discretion'.

Anyone pursued this?

Hello rj,off the top of my head your tmc upgrade should still be free.If no joy with your dealer ring customer care to check. The dealer could charge for the installation if the discs are supplied for free,if that is the case pm me and ill tell you how to load it your self.Best regards a8

The free upgrade to TMC on A4 has just been extended till the end of December 2007, so get in there!! If they question this ask them to look on Audi desktop and search TMC.

Thanks all. I can confirm that my dealer has agreed to undertake the upgrade - 30 mins work they say - for free.

Traffic Message Channel (TMC) is a technology for delivering traffic and travel information to drivers. It is typically digitally coded using the FM-RDS system on conventional FM radio broadcasts. It can also be transmitted on DAB or satellite radio. It allows silent delivery of high quality accurate, timely and relevant information, in the language chosen by the user and without interrupting normal services. Services, both public and commercial, are now operational in many European countries. When data is integrated directly into a navigation system, this gives the driver the option to take alternative routes to avoid traffic incidents.

Does it work in London? See my post about getting a SatNav retrofitted. Perhaps I should consider TMC too when 'shopping'.

Yes in London. See my above messages re getting this functionality 'enabled' on a 2006 RS4 with factory DVD MMI satnav - so my point is you may need to investigate cost/complexity of getting it enabled on a retrofit unit.

No real complexity, any RNS-E can be upgraded to TMC with the 2007 disk set regardless of factory fitted or not. The hard part is blagging your dealer for the free disks.

Both of these disks have TMC enabled.

Jan 2007 Disk: 8P0 919 884 M (sw0550)
June 2007 Disk: 8P0 919 884 R (sw0600)

No need to blag the dealers at all, ive just had my rns-e upgraded.. email this guy at audi UK thomas.peterkin@audi.co.uk he's a customer service manager their. Tell him how old the car is and that the RNS-E is retrofitted, he'll send you a confirmation email to take to the dealer.. who'll do it FOC.
