Question 2007 A4 Front Head Restraint Adjustment

Hello everyone,

I own a new 2007 A4, 2.0T, quattro, manual with leather interior. I am writing this from the US.

I posted this question on the general A4 forum and got nothing useful back. Perhaps someone on the B7 forum can help.

Here is the problem: I can move the front head restraints up and down but cannot pivot them forward and backward. The manual says they should move back and forth if pushed, just like the ones on my Golf IV do. Instead they seem to be stuck in the middle position. Is this a new "feature" or am I missing something? (Yes, I've tried pushing the button on the side and the one at the base, but they only affect the height.)

I am asking because:

1. The driving position is a bit uncomfortable.

and

2. I read somewhere that the front head restraints are "active" ie they move to support the head in case of a rear end collision. If this is true, is it possible that the mechanism is stuck?

Thanks,

Hristo

The "Head restrain" is exactly what it says. It is there to restrain your head in a collision.
It is not a head rest for you to rest your head on while driving.

Active restraints to not pivot. With some manual force, you may get them to pivot slightly against some kind of spring pressure, but they would just return to the default position. The "active" bit means they pivot by ECU control in the event of a crash, to help reduce whiplash injuries.
