Default multifunction steering wheel

I just collected my 20t sline quattro sp ed . But when I push the mode button on the steering wheel it say's no function on screen on the dash .According to the manual it should change from radio to cd or (phone or ipod if you have them fitted). I went back to the dealer and he said the button did nothing unless you have phone ,ipod or sat nav.Can anyone varify what this button does when you only have radio and cd.

I'll have to double check this, but when I don't have my phone with me, I believe the mode button just turns the radio/cd display on or off. When I have my phone with me, it definatley switches between cd/radio and listing my phone contacts (which is a cool feature).

Default Audi A3 multifunction steering wheel: no function!

Hi there,

I recently bought an Audi A3 Sportback with a multifunction steering wheel. But the MODE function does not work. This is the same problem as you had. I wonder whether you have got already the right answer or explnation?

Cheers, Yang

This is correct, you will also find the opposite button, known as PTT (Push To Talk), gives the same message. The mode button allows you to scroll information from phone book entries to audio functions on the central display on the dash so unless you phone prep it has no function.

Yeah, I have the same setup & unfortunately the buttons are dead without the dealer installed bluetooth phone system and the "tech package"...I think thats what they call it.

Same here. You'd think they would have different inserts for the steering wheel so we don't have dead buttons on our cars...

Does anyone know if it's possible to fit the phone prep without having a DVD/SatNav headset? That is, I've only got the Symphony II (in dash 6-disc changer) with Bose. Can I get a 3rd party install of the blue-tooth phone prep?

Thanks.
