My new 2005.5 Audi A4 2.0 TDi Automatic burns oil at the rate of 1L per 1000 miles. Audi say this is in spec and it says so in the handbook. I say I didn't have the handbook when I ordered the car or I wouldn't have bought it.
Is this a rogue vehicle or are all A4s having this kind of consumption. |

Funny you should say that my A4 SE TDI with 3500 miles on the clock has just need a half litre top up of expensive synth oil (so as not to invalidate warranties)
Seems a little excessive considering I used to run a 1.6 petrol Ford Focus that never needed topping up between services........ Is this to be expected as a "new engine" is run in or should I get back to Audi and tell them to have a look ? ![]() |

Hello,
Just dropped in from the A3 forum. My 2.0 TDI which is 6 months old 6k miles on the clock, has displayed in the DID the low oil warning twice now after a motorway slog of 150 miles+. Having visited the dealership and bought the expensive oil which you can't seem to buy anywhere else. The service dept said they can use oil at 1ltr per 1000 miles . Fortunately mine isn't drinking that much and is a company car so it aint going back for another 2 years. It does sound crap but a friend of mine who drives a Passat diesel told me the same story. I also have had many cars that have never needed a drop of oil between services including Ford diesels. Will keep an eye on this thread to see the outcome. |

Hi, Well it's good to know I'm not alone out there.
Lots of folk seem to know of the problem but only a couple of us are experiencing it. Does that make us an Anomaly? Does that make our engines rogue? I suspect so. I suspect that Audi have been alerted to the situation and are covering their OPTIONS. Let's hear from every 2.0 litre Audi who is using an unreasonable amount of oil Has anyone experienced the problem of burning oil during early "running in" miles which DOES eventually disappear, as Audi assure me that it will. Please talk to me, I NEED YOUR SUPPORT IF I AM TO GET ANYWHERE djg |
