Default Audi A4 tdi 2003, rpm, temperature and clutch

Morning all,

I've recently had a new clutch and dual mass flywheel fitted, and since then I've noticed a few changes on the dashboard.

1) Previously before the new clutch and DMF, when I was driving at 90MPH in 6th gear, the rev counter was at 3000RPM, however, after the new clutch and DMF were fitted, now it gets to 3000RPM at 98MPH? Is this normal, and will it adversly affect MPG and performance?

2) Secondly, before the new clutch and DMF, my temperature sensor used to show 90 degrees when the car was warm, now after the new items were fitted it shows between 80 - 85 degrees, but never reaches 90 degrees. Can the fitting of the new items affect the temperature, or do I need a new temperature sensor/thermostat?

Thanks in advance for responses.

SSB.

When a clutch begins to fail, one of the key observable symptoms is slippage of the clutch-plate against the flywheel. If the clutch-plate isn't firmly locked against the flywheel, you'll need more engine RPM's to achieve a given vehicle speed. So, it sounds like your repaired car is behaving as expected, although an 8MPH speed delta sounds like you ran the old clutch/flywheel set "all the way into the ground"...

You're right Mullardel, I did run the clutch to the ground, I noticed some slippage when I left for work, but continued for 70 miles on the M6 until the accelerator wouldn't move the car. After the repairs the Audi specialist showed me the old clutch and flywheel, it looked in pretty bad shape. I thought 90mph with 3000RPM was normal as I didn't know any better, looks like normality has returned now after the repair.

Any ideas about the temperature guage not reaching 90 degrees? It used to before the repair.

Thanks.

Glad that you got your money's worth from the old clutch/flywheel...

With the increased police coverage for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I really can't go out and directly check RPM-vs-road-speed at 90MPH without garnering unwanted attention of our state-police patrol cars...

At 80MPH, I usually see average coolant temperature of 188 degrees Farenheit (86.7 degrees Celsius), so your vehicle's reading of about 90 degrees sounds like it's in the ball-park...
