Default No HEAT and its cold outside! Pls help!

I have a 2004 Audi A4. with 75000 miles
heres the problems:
Temp gauge works when ever it wants to. (doesnt effect heat)
The climate control says HI but its blowing moderately warm to cold air. the faster you go the warmer it gets but still does not reach a comfortable warm level.

Luckly i was able to find the help info on the window regulator (parts on the way.)

thanks for your help..

Hutch

When Your Temp Guage Does Work What Is It Reading?

If It Is Below 90 Then It Is Most Likely Your Thermostat Is Broken, This Will Then Not Let Your Engine Get To Full Heat And Therefore Will Not Have The Heat To Warm Your Aircon Up Fully,

You Need A New Coolant Temp Sender So Your Engine Temp Guage Works Aswell, Then You Will Know If The Thermostat Is Broken

The gauge worked this morning. It heated up to the middle mark with in 3 minutes of starting to drive and stayed at that spot. Im assuming its 90. there are no numbers. the heat however never came up. it would get to warm but when i stopped at a traffic light it would blow straight cold air.

I have this same issue on my wife's 2003 A4 1.8T. Had the heater core replaced at the dealer before the 100k warantee was up due to lack of heat. Heat worked great after. Had the timing belt, water pump replaced at 101K a couple weeks ago at a local trusted garage instead of the dealer to save me a grand. Now the heat only blows hot air under acceleration or constant load, ie. 3500+ rpms. Idle or normal driving equal to or less than 3000 rpms nothing but cold air on high setting. Engine temp warmed up is right in the middle of C and H as it should be so the new water pump and thermostat are working or the car would be overheating. Owner of garage says its a common audi issue to have new water pump not efficient enough to push coolant through heater core to produce heat under idle load. I say BS. Will not be returning to him unless he proposes a better solution. Anyone else have any suggestions?

if your coolant system has been drained recently to fit a water pump then its highly likely you have an airlock in the pipes, try squeezing the top radiator pipe repeatadly while the engine is ticking over this will help to remove the air in the system. if your car hasnt been drained and used to work ok then it maybe that the heater core could be blocked up and needs cleaning. there are a few how-to's around so just have a look and try it, its free so its a good place to start
