Top won't open

I went to open the convertible top for the first time this season and it released from the windshield but the boot cover wouldn't open and do anything so it wouldn't get any further than a few inches from the winshield. Any thoughts on what I could check? The car is a 2004 Audi A4 Cabriolet 1.8L.

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago on my 2003 Cabriolet...It opened from the windshield a few inches like you say and my 'roof' light on the dash started to 'blink'...

I'm not sure if it's coincidence or not but i had just washed my car (at a car wash) when the roof wouldn't work...It wouldn't work for about two days...

The day i was about to take it in to have it looked at (a sunny day i might add) i tried it again and it worked perfectly...

From what i have read on these Audi Forums there is some sort of 'roof reset' which can be done (i think by a dealer)...

Personally, the more i look into it the more i think that it has something to do with the wiring which appears to run along the back right hand side of the car...I think in my case, the water from the car wash may have triggered some sort of 'problem' and the roof wouldn't open...

I hope this may help or at least give you hope that it may work again...
