Hi
I need to remove the battery from my '02 A4 3.0L Cabriolet. ![]() I have a serious water flood coming into the passenger footwell and I think I need to lift out the battery to clear the drain holes? I have removed the long top cover and disconnected the battery. However I cannot see how the battery is secured in place. There appears to be a plastic strip (on the rear of dash firewall?) along the back bottom edge behind the battery that the battery case bottom lip appears to be wedged under. This make me think I should be able to tilt the front of the battery slightly and lift it out, however it is fixed in position. Can anyone tell me how to release the battery? Thanks! |

Hey there!
I own the 1.8T of the same year. SO. I'm going to assume the secondary firewall is on your vehicle also. I changed mine like this: 1) You slide-off the overly long, top plastic cover; 2) If your car has the secondary firewall, with a piece of, thick, cubed rubber running on top of the secondary firewall, all the way from right, to nearly all the way over to the left.. lift it of the firewall, and fold it over to the engine side of that wall! (I originally thought it was connected to the A/C, & that it was it's piping.. but it's not, it was electrical!!) 3) Get you torch, & look down between the battery & the secondary firewall. You should see, a bolt. ..that requires a long extension socket wrench, with a size 17 socket?? (if memory serves me!) But that's for an A4 1.8T model. I cant say I've seen the 3.0 engine bay, but I think there shouldn't be too much variation, if there is a that secondary firewall. But still, I hope that's been helpful! Good luck. ![]() |

Hi. Thanks for this. I removed the long cover, pulled the thicked cubed rubber over to the engine side and I can see a socket head bolt down below at the front of the battery. It looks about 7mm size allen key is needed?, however it's in a very difficult to access location with 2 steel pipes(A/C?) running accross the top.
Do I need a special tool to access the bolt? (Do Audi make it difficult to do simple tasks on purpose?) |

..I apologize for any inaccuracies, now that you remind me, it is NOT a socket, which I at first glance thought it would be!!
& NO; you don't need a special tool. (but I don't recall whether I used a 'star' socket, or 'allen-key' style socket, because I own both, in my socket set!! ..sorry for forgetting to tell you, mate!) But I did use a miniature socket set with all of the extensions it had, & taped the head with electrical tape, because of no magnet! Miniature socket sets are very cheap to buy, from your Clearance, or Reject Shop type of place. But you will find, that you will use your 'miniature socket set' with all of the patterns ('star' & 'allen-key') on your car regularly, so maybe an investment in a more solid set could very well be a good investment. But a cheap set should get you out of trouble, if you decide to go that way. Ooh! ..& you will need WD40, in case it wont budge, like in my case. I hope this has been at least, a little more helpful..(?) ![]() |

p.s. YES! ..Audi design their cars, so that you have to take it to them!
But it only LOOKS more complicated than it actually is. Good luck man. It's all trial & error, like everything else that you'll eventually do very well.. ![]() Last edited by Audi-ble Trigger : 06-01-2008 at 06:08 AM. |

But I'm glad this helped. I think between Trebor & myself you received the complete picture, & that is why these forums work!! (I work so much, I barely get time to go on forums!) It's nice to be appreciated though.. & it was my pleasure to assist, with what sounds like a particularly messy situation! Take care, & fingers crossed you've solved the problem. |
