Angry Oil pump problem on 04 1.8T

Hello all,

I have a 2004 A4 with 1.8T with 59K miles and I suddenly starting having low oil pressure warnings come on when coasting or deceling with RPMs in the 1700 - 2000 range. Took the car in, they measured the oil pressure and they said it is 10psi vs 18psi normal at idle and about 38psi at 3K RPMs. No sludge at all. They suspect the oil pump is going bad, but they don't really know.

Have any of you B6 1.8T owners had an issue with oil pumps failing or decreasing in performance at a relatively low car mileage? Seems strange to me that an oil pump, which is always fully lubricated, would be failing at such a low lifetime.

Thanks,

-Matt

Default Same problem

Hi, I've got similar problems with my 1.8t passat.
1st time it only took an engine flush to solve the problem.
2nd time (which is right now ) again the same problem after a long drive (1000 km)... So it might be sludge in your carter.

Is there a ticking noise coming from the engine?

I've had this problem on my 1.8t a6 at 80k miles.
Initially it was very random, usually after a cruise on the motorway and then pulling off and stopping at lights etc.

Then it became more regular to the point where if the car was sat idling for a while it would become noiser, so I stopped using it, took it to the garage and it turned out to be the oil pickup blockage, so they replaced that and the oil pump as a precaution, and all was well after that, put another 10k on it before selling it with no further issues.

Everywhere around the world it's the same problem. A combination of VW design, unwise usage and not respecting the maintenance interval.

Only advise I can give is to find a skilled mechanic. 3 of those so-called expert all diagnosed wrong. (1 just put half synth oil in and the other wanted to change the drive chain )
