Default Headlight Module

I am a brand new owner of a 2002 A4 3.0L V6, and this is my first post. I love it but whenever I turn on the car a little headlight with a X over it displays in the in dash console. I talked to my mechanic about it and he said the car was giving an error of a broken headlight module. Is this user replaceable? If so where do I begin.

Thanks for the help

Ben

Yes I have. As I said my mechanic said it wasn't a problem with a bulb but it was a "headlight control module" witch connects the bulbs to the computer in the car. His words of course not mine. Any ideas?

Although this link is for S3 can you identify the warning lamp from the list?

Yes I can. On page 4 in the top left hand corner there is a chart of warning icons. Mine is the bulb with an X over the top of it that says "Bulb Monitor"

OK if your lamps are all working then it's worth taking them out for inspection, poor quality or wrong spec bulbs can cause the problems you are having. Also and this may sound really daft but do you use a mobile phone charger in the lighter socket? if so remove it and see what happens.

Okay that sounds good. I'll check out the bulbs this evening, and no I don't have a phone charger.

Is there anything to the "Bulb Monitor"? Do you know what it is?
