Better get it changed ASAP, Audi recomend changing it around the 85K mark. You dont want it to snap on the highway when you're doing 90mph, it could cause a piston to punch a hole in you're engine bloc (worst case), and that would mean a new engine. Check Stafford (or Stratford) Audi, they could do it for aprox £275.

Default Timing is everything

Thanks for the feedback. That seems to be the consensus; one dealer told me that I should have a number of parts replaced at the same time including the water pump !. If you have any further insight let me know.

thanks again

I have a 1.8T Sport on about 75k, have read in numerous places that bcos of the positioning of the water pump, its best to have it done at the same time. I'm gonna have that changed when mine is due.

Yeah man, you should get it done before something goes wrong. I'm not sure where you're at but it cost me ('99 A4 1.8T) around $1300 for timing belt, tensioner, and thermostat. It could've been lower but I also had to get my coolant flange done as well.

Hi, if it helps, I have a 2004 Audi A4 1.8T and Audi Bath have told me that the Cambelt should be changed every 5 years or 112500 Miles (I assume the mileage has been converted from Km!) - whichever comes soonest. The general concensus also seems to be that you should get tensioners, pulleys and water pump changed at the same time. I was quoted £520, but I think that was only for the cambelt change

Stafford Audi have a shop on eBay that seems to have some good prices advertised for cambelt and servicing, or am i missing something? Check it out guys, if its genuine then you could make some savings.
