Default How to change crash sensor for side airbag on driver side (G179) 2002 A4 Avant?

I have the airbag warning light on, it will not reset, and gives the fault code 01221. Can someone explain how to replace the driver's side airbag crash sensor (G179) on a 2002 A4 B6 Avant? TIA.

Sorry to ask about this again, but I thought someone must know something about replacing these crash sensors?

G179 is located at the bottom of the "B" pillar, remove the seat belt lower bolt and remove "B" pillar trims to access. Always observe Airbag safety when working on the system, disconnect battery, discharge any static from you body before touching any part of the system, turn the key to ignition on before reconnecting the battey. If any doubt use a dealer!!

Many thanks! Can I ask why the key to ignition should be turned on before reconnecting the battery?

If you reconnent the battery first and sit in the car and turn on the ignition in the event of a fault in the replacement unit or wiring the airbag or bags could be deployed directly at you. The idea is that if you reconnect the battery last at least you wont be in the car.

That seems like a very good idea! Thanks again.
