Default Glovebox damper fault

my glovebox has suddenly lost it's dampened action. now when you open it, it falls open suddenly rather than opening gently.
ive popped off the side panel revealing what i think is the damper (see pic) but theres nothing obviously wrong with it. am i looking at the right thing, or am i going to have to remove the whole glovebox?

It's usually the little pin that comes out when the damper siezes up but that looks attached ok, you can replace the damper without removing the glovebox, pull the pin out, disconnect the wiring and turn the damper round a bit more and it comes out of it's housing.
