Hey guys.
I've been a life long rotary guy. Never have owned anything else, but always had a thing for the A4. I know NOTHING about audi though. So I was wondering if I could pick a few brains and figured here would be a great place to start. I'm 24. I need to grow just a little. Still looking for some power, but with class this time. Tired of pumping all my money into FC's. Not that I don't enjoy it, it's just time for a change. I just have a few questions about reliabilty, maintenance, engine life. I ask engine life cause I came across an 02 A4 3.0 for only $7,000. Me personally I think this is outta control cheap because I've paid close to that for a 18yr old RX-7. The carafax report was clean. the only thing it has hindering from me jumping on it, well besides my ignorance to Audi in general is the glaring 158,000 miles it has. Would this be a good buy or should I just pass. Any info would be greatly appreciated. P.S I heard to stay away from the turbo'd A4s. I heard audi turbos in general aren't good. Prove that wrong please. Thanks again. |

Well who ever told you about that was talking out of there arse.
The K03 turbo are not the most powerful that’s for sure but with a remap and a well looked after car you will see around 220bhp but then you can always add a bigger turbo if you like as well with 330bhp being the max target on stock internals. No the 3.0 is a great engine but you are limited to tuning option and the only real option is the PES G3 Supercharger kit which will see around 310bhp as a full bolt on kit. I would say if your not looking to tune the car then the 3.0 is the way to go but if you like playing with engines then the 1.8T is the better option and if you can afford it go Quattro your love it.

Thanks for the info man.
But I'm looking for more of a daily driver right now in my life. Something that just looks nice and drives sweet with high reliabilty and not have to worry if I'm gonna breakdown everytime I think of driving over 50miles. unlike the loves of my life. All my tuning time goes into my 7's. So I'm not too worried about mods. On a specific. 158k on a B6 3.0 with one front end accident on the carafax report. All the miles are jersey miles/highway and MT for only $7000if that makes a difference. you think there's a serious problem? Last edited by RANDOM HERO™ : 03-17-2008 at 09:34 PM. |

Price wise I'm not sure of its value but I tend to use Autotrader as a guide then deduct for repairs from there.
The V6 engines are great engines so providing it’s been looked after and any repairs where done well you should be fine. Find out what was fixed at the front before you buy it and check that all the work was done well and that no signs of repair are still noticeable and you should be fine but make sure the service history is up to date as you sure don't want to be hit with a cams belt change which it is sure going to be needed if it has not been done already.

I am also thinking about joining the Audi family and I have a quick question. Do you think that a 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro for 13,100 sounds like a good deal? It has 69,000 miles on it and is in pretty good condition. Just a few scratches and some curbage on the front and passanger wheels. I want to make sure im getting a good deal on it before I jump in and throw down my money
