Default Shut off car and I hear this....

When I shut off my A4 1.8T I hear a noise that can best be described as a jet engine shutting down (but much quieter) or even a vaccuum cleaner shutting down. The noise starts out loud and becomes quiet. I hope this description is helpful.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Could it be related to the turbo? Any advice would be appreciated.

Could this issue be related to not letting the turbo engine cool properly before I shut off the car? I tend to shut it off right away...

I think when I first got my car about 2 months ago, I noticed a similar sound - but not too loud that I would be concerned. The sound reminded me of the car in the film MIB when it stops!

Yeah this happens to me too, didn`t know if it was the turbo or the fan for the heater slowing down

Open the hood and see if the cooling fans are running. On my A6, the fans were set to keep running slightly after shut off and it did sound like a jet whine but quit after 20-30 seconds. It was not a turbo related issue.

Default Mine does it to

It seems to come from the rear of my B6 and sounds like a mechanical relief valve taking pressure off. It is very faint and goes on for 5-10 min. and then stops. I've heard it for a number of years now and never been able to figure it out.

I love the sound... Reminds me of a jet engine spooling down.. I think it's normal in the B6's

My '02 does that too. I like it. I pretend it's my jet engine.

Well it appears many owners hear this noise - I actually like the sound of it, too - but I wanted to be sure it wasn't anything harmful.
