Question Any Ideas what this is?????

My car has just had a new fuel pump and filter fitted and up to now car is running like a dream

However the machanic mentioned that the old fuel pump was covered in a black sooty/coal looking dust which he had not seen before and thought it was a little odd, and thinks that the tank is going to be full of the same stuff which probably caused the fuel pump fault.

Has anybody any idea what this sooty looking dust could be?

John

May want to be sure to use premium fuel (93 octane) and keep dust out of it. Other than that, I'm baffled.

this does seem odd, like something got into your tank, or somehow the tank is disintegrating. I don't think this could be due to dirty fuel, sounds too excessive for that.
