A4 left hand side speakers don't work with cd !?

Hello all - this is my first post so any help would be great and again "hello!"

I have a Y reg A4- newish shape and the stereo works fine when i have the radio on, but when i put the cd changer on, sound only comes out of the right hand speakers ???
i have played around with fader and balance etc and checked for loose wires in the changer but no joy

Any help or ideas would be good
- thinking of just buying an audi single cd player as its a tape player in the dash anyway and replacing it, will that help solve it or waste of money ?

Also - I have the 18" Audi alloys and lip spoiler on the boot, but am after a couple of subtle extra bits as i like to tinker with stuff! any ideas ? quite like the s line skirt pieces on the doors, but can't find them
