Default Interesting in Purchasing S4

Hey everyone, I currently drive a Nissan Altima SE-R, while it is comfortable I find it to be a hassle in the snow (despite FWD) and lacking in power. I am in the market for a B6 S4 and was wondering a few things. Are they a reliable daily driver? Are they easy to mod? What year would you reccomend? How is the maintenance? Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Well, I guess I'll use my first post to chime in, as I just purchased a '04 S4.

Realize that this car will have a V8 in it, so the gas mileage may not be so desireable. The AWD is amazing and very easy to get used to. As far as mods go, what I have read, there is really not much you can do other than a chip, intake/exhaust. That's about it. Again, from what I have read.

Make sure you check yours over when you pick it out. Mine has been in the shop for electrical things - bad wiring in passenger-side mirror, homelink system was bad and the tow was terrible.

I love the car so far. I sold my '02 Z06 Vette and bought this car. I am a fan of V8's. That's my 2 cents!

Regards, Eric

well i have just bought one of these fine machines...

i looked just about every where on the net to find as much info as i could, there are plenty of reviews about the spec of the car etc etc, but i couldnt find anything to suggest that they are unreliable in anyway, i believe the servive intervals are every 19K or 24 mnths, mods will be easy enough but not cheap, but saying that modding properly is never cheap, i modded my supra, it cost me £32k to mod that for an extra 300bhp!! if you havent already test driven it then you will be amazed by the quattro system, coming from rear wheel drive cars it seems a little strange but lots of fun lol, MPG will only be about 20mpg on average, and low teens around town, hope this is some use to you fella.

I have had the b6 s4 for a year now. I love the car... However, be prepared. I will state it again, be prepared for the most expensive car you will ever own maintence-wise. Window regulators are notorious for breaking. Cost me aprox $750.00 to have two new ones installed. Oil chg w/ synthetic oil $120.00. Rear hub replacement $850.00. Everything is hard to work on because that V8 is jammed in a little car. Also, if you drive it like it wants to be driven, expect to get single digit gas mileage. (drinks gas) Lastly, other replies are correct in that there is not much mods for this car. Intake, chip, exhaust is about the only cheap mods. If you want to spend $10,000-$20,000 you can add a supercharger.
