Thumbs up 1.8 T Shifting RPM's

Hi all,
I am new to the Audi world and have just purchased an A4 1.8T 6 speed Avant Quattro. A little history---I have been a Cadillac for over 25 years and lived north of Boston until 2 years ago.We now live in the AUDI-roncacks and felt we needed a real snow machine for the winters up here.
So far the car has been a lot of fun but have heard of the sludging problems on this forum, I read that excess "lugging" of the engine .can be one thing that contributes to the sluggung problem.
So now I am wondering , at what RPM range is best for this 4 cyl. engine to be shifted? I know that smaller engines can withstand higher RPM's but I don't want to abuse the car (or wast fuel), also, my wife drives the car on short trips to work everyday.( less than two miles)

These engines like high revs with no damage normally occurring, i would say best to shift about 3000 rpm if you want economy ...

Some people say sludging can be caused by using low octane fuel so try and run it on as high as you can obtain for where you live but dont add octane addatives as these cause all sorts of running problems with the cars ecu etc.

Also most important keep oil changes done reguarly and try and give the car a good run at speed a couple oftimes a month to blow out the carbon build up accumilated on the short 2 mile runs ..

It is also critical that you use the correct oil as specified by Audi
