Default Driver Info system

Hi folks,

Newbie alert!

Just bought a 2003 TDi 130 Sport to replace a 2000 TDi 115PD I owned for 3 years. It was an excellent car and was faultless when I sold it even though it had done 172,000 miles. It had the DIS and I must admit I thought that all A4's had this standard by now.

So, Yes you've guessed. This one doesn't.
I do a lot of long trips and I will really miss the info. Anyone know if it's viable to fit it? Obviously the wiper arm needs to be replaced for a switched one but what else? The dash insert? Any additional bits? Would be grateful for any input.

I understand it is relatively simple to add cruise control as an option. In that case it apparently requires not much more than a new switch and a piece of wiring loom if my info is correct.

Cheers

Hi boronet and welcome to the forum.
I am really suprised your cars not got the dis as standard, especially as its a sport model. Was this an optional extra when new?I must say its the first one ive ever heard of not having one at all.Might be worth contacting the local Audi dealership for the info on installing it.Do you get the check system lights on the dash when you turn the ignition on?

The SPORT model came without the on board computer..... ie... the MPG, AVERAGE MPG, TRIP MPG etc... it was an extra...

the SE came with it standard..

however the SPORT has, TEMP, door open digram of the car,Fuel remaining, the onbard "CHECK", OIL, COOLENT, BRAKES/ABS, FUEL, and a few others...cant remember..........

I would not know about fitting... i would expect the DIS would be able to take it with the relevant chip, as it does give "WORD UP DISPLAY" ie handbrake is applied,

Cheers.

Do you think vag-com would be able to adjust the DIS info if he got the stalk installed then?

Thanks for the welcome t-sport. The "missing" DIS surprised me too.

It's just as you say RickT. I was hoping that the dash insert had the necessary functions and that the full DIS was disabled only by the stalk not having the relevant toggle switch. (Sometimes camera "extras" or functions are disabled this way!) However, if the retrofit requires a dash insert and/or other expensive kit then I'm gonna have to live without it. I do have access to vag-com though.

Here's hoping there's an inexpensive answer out there...

Sorry to reignite an old thread, but was there ever word on this. I find myself in exactly the same position.

Reading the manual, its looks like you only need the switches on the stalk.

I've just ordered vag-com

Cheers for any help

I was told by a Audi specialist (not a dealer) that it was likely I would need an ECU or possibly a dash insert (or even both!). Lost a bit of interest after that news so I didn't even find out the cost of the switch arm. Would be great if that's all it required though...

If anyone has achieved this I'd love to know. Incidentally, I understand that retro-fitting cruise control is relatively inexpensive on a B6.

I had a "quote" from an Audi specialist to fit cruise control of around £200
