replacing air filter

Just bought a 03 A4 1.8 from a friend wanted to change the air filter but couldn't get the top of the air filter box off.
Does any have some good instructions on replacing the filter?
I’ve replaced many air filters on cars & its always been easy the air filter housing is in the front unclip some clips & your done. But I had a hell of a time trying to pull this one out.
