Hello all - newbie here.
I am having some serious problems with my A4 Avant automatic '03. I am a regular Audi customer and am somewhat disappointed with this particulare '03 model. 3 major things have gone wrong and 2 made have to abandon the care. 1) ignition - car would not start - turn over but that was it - took 2 weeks to fix in '05 - stranded in another state 2) Oil light went on and found that the oil was plugged and was not cirulating in the engine... stranded again 3) This is the most recent and serious. Intermittently(actually has happened twice) when I mash down on the accelerator(kick down) the throttle gets stuck in the down position.... Let me add that I have pulled the mat our and it would not come back up(plus the mat is no where heavy enough to hold it down. I have been able to stop the car fairly easily due to the rev limiter and good brakes. I turned the care off and back on and the throttle was still stuck. I tried to lift the throttle - which it would do but is was "loose" made no impact on the revs. Finally after "banging" on the pedal a number of times it released... scarry.... and Audi says 2 things - 1st it was the mat, which I know wasn't and even they have looked to see it is not heavy enough... 2nd that there is no computer report of it in the car. Here is my question - has anyone else seen or heard of this? Any help is much appreciated. This is my wife's car and I am frankly nervous to have her drive it.. so nervous - esp with the other problems I told Audi to keep it until they figure it out. Thanks, Mark |

there was a story few years back, of a mother killing 4 kids. She claimed that the gas pedal got stuck down (like you described) and she went out of control and slammed into a tree. They checked her car's computer and it didnt show anything either. She was sent to life in prison... the only difference between you and her was that she was driving a BMW... and had a history of bad temper and rage

Also I managed not hitting a tree and killing anyone....
Brakes are stronger than the engine in any event. The dealer service manager was able to re-create the effect by loosening the mat and moving it under where the gas pedal is and having the gas pedal bottom get "wedged" in the down position - made me think that is certainly a possibility. I have since removed the mat entirely - to be sure and safe. |
