many thanks for letting me know what they said.A friend on mine is an audi mechanic and he didn't know what it was without taking it all apart. But him and rest of the audi mechanics that work with him say that all quattros make a noise after a while. But when you pay so much for them in the first place you would think that you wouldn't get such a thing. But thats Good old Audi for you. Thanks again

Well I just found out the U joint can't be reconditioned. So I had to buy a new one. Sounds like I'm going to spend about $1100 by the time everything is done. Looks like I'm going to be eating mac and cheese for the next year. haha

I just got the A6 back from the transmission shop. All of the vibrations and chattering noises are gone. (They should be for $1100). Looks like I lucked out and found out what the problem was on the first try. The driveshaft/U joint were replaced and the seals were also changed while everything was apart. I guess I haven't had any major repairs in the 2 years I've owned it, so I've ben pretty lucky up until now. Good luck to the rest of you in solving your drivetrain problems.

You may luck out and not need to replace the driveshaft if the Ujoint isnt damaged. Check first to see if the the fluid level around the joint isn't low. A low fluid level would cause the joint to be noisy.
