S4 Oil Change

I have an 2002 S4 and have been using mobil 1 synthetic oil. The dealer claims I only need to change the oil every 10,000 miles. Does anyone agree with their recommendation? It makes me nervous. I do mostly highway driving.

10,000 miles is adequate if you’re not street racing (or just have a heavy foot). My allroad has the oil changed by the dealer every 10k miles and I do one oil service in-between. It also depends a lot on how many miles you’ve god on your S4.

10k will be fine. All of my cars let you know when it's time, MB, Porsche, Audi, and none of them have let me down yet. The S4 is the only one that burned so much oil the first 5k miles.

I am changing the oil on my 2004 S4 between the factory service as well.

I had read some reports of oil sludging between the recomended services of some volkswagen engines causing failures. I plan to keep the car so I think it is a good preventative measure.

My dealer told me 10,000 miles is fine. However, I have taken my A4 to an other dealer who said that 5000 miles is better, and the extra is good insurance. Considering my engine is being replaced right now at 36,000 miles, I am going to agree with the extra oil changes.....
