Well, I've recently got a 2004 model Audi A4 - 1.9 TDi Sport blah, blah, blah... lovely; first ever car and all that. But I was reading some Internet information about headlights... and I saw lots of positive comments about upgrading the headlight bulbs to ones partially filled with Xenon - not the HID stuff - the direct replacements, H7 types.

Getting all enthusiastic before doing my preparation, I went straight onto the PowerBulbs website and ordered up a pair of H7 Osram Silverstars - which I'd heard were the best I could get without HID. Excellent service - and they were here in 2-days... I also got some W5W Bluevision lights as a free present - not that I know what to do with these at all.

Sadly, I'd ordered the bulbs before actually reading the A4 manual (hmmm!) and, in there, it tells me to go to a dealer to change a bulb. Now, I'm not a complete idiot and I don't want to have to do this - however, changing a bulb does look pretty complicated and I wondered if there were any guides out there - step-by-step DIY guides that will tell me what tools I need and what I need to be wary of... I'm going to give this a go - but I need all the help I can get.

It's a thing I'm guessing a lot of people have done - everyone can't just go to a dealer to do this, can they? Obviously I'm a bit of a newbie here - so if anyone can take the time to take me through this I would be appreciative - especially someone who's done this kind of thing before...

Cheers, DpM

its not hard at all, it tells you how o do it in your manual...go to the AW tech section, i believe there is a DIY section on it.

are you sure it says "go to a dealer". if it dose, please post a pic! thats pretty funny.

Well, I checked my manual again - same as before - index = "bulbs, changing" - page 357... and it's telling me that I need a "qualified workshop" to do this. Now, schadenfreude aside, I still think there must be a load of people who've done this to a new Audi... 2004... not 1997. Step-by-step instructions are what I need - to ensure I don't kill myself inadvertently... any assistance from people who've done it or pointers to online guides would be great... I need...

Step 1) Open bonnet
Step 2) Identify both left and right headlights
Step 3) Identify screws, clips, nuts or whatever...
Step 4) Take crosshead screwdriver or miscellaneous tool and work away...

Right through to...

Step x) Close bonnet and try new headlight bulbs.

Any takers?

I must say that this is a very helpful forum. I am astounded by the assistance I have been given regarding my newbie problem. This most excellent advice will surely help me in getting past my current hurdle.

"Give it a go", "Sounds easy to me", "It's not hard at all" and "Read the manual" are all very useful pieces of comprehensive technical advice - so good, in fact, that I felt the need to congratulate the admin. of this forum on the quality of content this forum has. I especially liked the fact that the people who helped me didn't even have 2004 Audis.

In all seriousness... what a waste of time. Doubt that I'll be logging into this forum again; what a useless registration that was. Au revoir. DpM

who is to blame for no one helping you? again, the administration has no control over who posts what and when the post it. if no one helped you - sorry - but it happens.
