I am considering a 2005 S4. Other than being a pig on gas, which is measurable and expected, has anyone experienced or heard of any major problems with this vehicle?

I have one, and if you can handle the gas consumption of its big engine it is
a great value...awsome performance overall...no problems so far

I picked up my 2005 A4 2.0 TDI, its no S4 power wise but it is a seriously fine looking motor and it goes for only having 140BHP so an S4 is going to be serious fun! If you got the cash go for it

[attachmentid=256]Very minor issues. I've had mine a year now and have had some minor electrical glitches, a belt tensioner issue and thats about it! Good luck, enjoy, and show the love to other S4 drivers. One thing I can't stand is stuffy drivers who don't respond from the friendly toot on the horn....

I added a pick for everyone's liking!

I had what I hope was a unique experience with a 2004 S4. Failed leftside variable camshaft timing adjuster at 4,200 miles. Car wouldn't idle correctly due to the loss of valve timing control at low rpm. Long story short - car was in shop for over 2 months, engine was R&R'd twice after long wait for parts from Germany. Audi finally decided, with some serious prompting on my part, to replace the car with a new S4. I've had it for about 7 months now with no similar, or other, problem.

Hopefully it was a fluke and not a common problem. The longer I have the S4 the more I like it. Really fine design, engineering and execution.

Drifting through old forum notes. I have a 2005 S4 I traded into from a 2002 A4 (July 2005). I don't understand the complaints on mileage. Yes, I expected a lot less but I'm not getting "A Lot Less". The S4 isn't broken in yet, however I'm getting 18-19 mpg in town and so far up to 28 highway. That is in Tiptronic or manual. Upgraded the air intake to the Stratosphere last week -- even better mileage and I still drive 75 in 65 zones and challenge Porsches whenever I can.

Hello,
I have had my 2004 S4 for about 8 months, and I love it. I do have to say the fuel consumption is very high. I cannot help from going 100mph all the time, and my consumption averages about 12-14mpg. It's funny to watch the real-time fuel meter drop to 4mpg when you get on the gas. I'm not complaining, just didn't expect it to be so much. I'm suprised others have gotten as high as 18mpg, I'm even more suprised they can keep it under 80mph!! In my S4, 100mph feels like 60mph in any Japanese car, it's truely awesome.
