Rodent's Chewing Engine Wires

I have a 2005 A4 3.0, 4 weeks old, and recently had headlight warning light come on. I took the car to the dealership, only to find out that a mouse had climbed into my engine, chewed up my hood insulation and made a nest out of it, and then proceeded to chew up some wires. Audi refuses to pay for this damage under warranty. My auto insurance, however, will pay for this. The claims adjuster said that most of these types of claims are on brand new luxary cars.

Has anyone else had this problem or heard of Audi cars being succeptible to this? You'd think that Audi would build an undercarridge that would prevent this.

Rodents are pretty sneaky and can get through some very small spots. I am not sure what you can do to the car itself to prevent this. You may wish to simple put out some rat poison near where you park. Years ago, when I lived in some rural areas, I had mice create nests in some really small areas (actually got in an air box and created a nest that plugged the air filter), and wondered how the heck it happened, but in the end, there is nothing you can really do except try to keep them away from the car with some poison or something. Just be careful if you have any pets......

I had the indentical problem several years ago with a 1990 Audi 80. The car was kept in a closed garage every night. The Audi dealer in Omaha, NE told me that they had received a service bulletin from Audi advising them of the problem.

This happens a lot when it starts to get cold they look for a warm space. If you park indors put some moth balls on the floor where you park.
