I recently bought a '98 a4 1.8l turbo, non-quattro. I know these cars weren't the fastest when they were new, and seeing as mine is 10 years old, I find it a little lacking in power. I was wondering what any and everyone has done to get a little more pep out of their 1.8's. If you have any suggestions, or just a sweet thought, please post. And i am in college, so cost is a big issue.
Thanks...SamSneed

dude I'm in the same boat, except I bought a '99 1.8T Quattro.
From what I've read and asked a few people about they most cost effective thing we can do is get a decent chip/ecu. I don't know how much exactly but I think it's good for about 20-30hp more and will cost about $300-700 depending on the chip maker. I know you care about more power, but I think the first thing I'm going to do is get me some HID lights because they cost only around $130-200. |

Chip is the best option and best bang for the bucks.
In the US the best software seems to be GIAC and APR but should not cost more than $500 max. In the UK ther are a lot more options and REVO, JABBA Sport, GIAC (quite new here) Superchip and loads more other indepents that do great prices on chips from £250 upwards. As stated you should see power increase around 30-40bhp but I would also change the DV to a upgraded unit and if you want a little more power add a exhaust to help free a little more. Other than that you will looking at changing the turbo.
