Default Auto-leveling headlights don't

My headlights have stopped auto-leveling. They work occasionally, but most of the time, they point straight down, making it impossible to drive at night, except in the city (where, fortunately, I live). How do I find out if it is a faulty sensor, or if the motors need replacing? Oh, and, where is the @$#&ing sensor anyway?

Cheers.

Default

The sensor is connected via a link to the lower suspension arm IIRC
