Default a4 wont start, please help

Hi all, I recharged my battery on my 96 a4 an accidentally connected it the wrong way round because I was in a hurry, It was only connected for a few secs but now I cant start the car.
When I turn the key there is 1 click but then nothing, tried jumpleads and still the same.
What am I likely to have Broke? looked at fuses but couldnt see any blown

Are your elec systems workign? lights, horn, wipers radio etc.

What you may want to do is phsicaly check your earch connections for evidence of damage. To be honest this is unlikely because at the time when the frame became live, the posative side became earth so short circut is unlikely.

One possability, and this is more or less a guess is the alarm/imoboliser has a backup battery of some sort. When you crossed the conections this woudl have been getting a mixed up feed, along with it's normal internal current. This may have caused problems with the imoboliser.

If you have a volt meter it may be worth checkign to make sure the starter motor is gettign a good feed, you may also want to try and bump start the car either with a push or tow. THis can cause catalyst bamage thoguh so dont over do it if the car doesnt start right away.

Lets hope it's just a faulty starter motor and a coincidence of timeing with the error!

cheers for that, was going to try and bumpstart it but I had no one to help, Should be able to get a tow tomorrow so will try then. It sounds to me like the culprit is the starter, I hope so.
