Default Wheel Bearing on 1995 1.8

I've done a quick search on the fourm and can't find anything similar to my question.

Basically, I've noticed that there is a humming / growling and I've spoken to a friendly mechanic who says that the bearings are going. He also warned me that this will be out of my domain for having a DIY job. I think on this occasion, he may be correct.

Could somebody give me an approximate cost (parts and work time) for such a job?

It's a 1995 Audi A4 1.8.

many thanks in advance.

Ya, each wheel bearing can run anywhere from 105-140 depending on your local auto store. I found both front wheel bearing kits for 120+ out the door....just got lucky i guess.

So, i replaced both my front wheel bearings, along with the Tie-rod ends and front brake pads..... the only thing you probably wont be able to do is pressing the bearing out of the steering knuckle, and pressing the spline out of the inside of the bearing. I just took my steering knuckles from both sides down to a local machine shop, they pressed out the old bearings and pressed in the new ones. 1 hour later and $70 out the door i had my new bearings in, so its definitely worth it. Good luck.

Rears ar doable DIY but the fronts need a press to fit properly, last time i did mine i removed the hub assembly and paid £20 a side for them to press the bearings in, went home and refitted job done
