Default Blown Turbo!

Hey all,

Driving down the M40 today my turbo blew. Really bad timing as I'm fairly skint at the moment.

Does anyone know where to get a cheapish turbo from? Would be more than happy with a reconditioned one. Also, since this seems like a good time to get a power upgrade, is there a way of getting extra power without much extra expense?

Thanks for all your help,

Stedders

Hi i would suggest that instead of going with a new stock turbo go with a k04 turbo which is basically just like the stock turbo that you have right now. The k04 should increase your hp by about 30 to 50 hp. And if you want more power get a boost controler so that you can increase the psi which will provide more power. If you look online you can get just the k04 turbo for about $1000- $1300. Ussually inorder to run the bigger turbo your going to need a chip upgrade.

German ebay is where i buy used turbo's.

You have to be very selective though, and only buy low mileage turbo's which show clear pictures of the compressor blades etc.

There is also no comeback if it turns out to have wear/play etc.

The last turbo i bought was a 2.0ltr TDI 16v 140bhp turbo that had done 7000miles, for £30 you can not go wrong.

Thanks for the help guys.

I've ordered a K04 remanufactured turbo from Home so fingers crossed it'll do the job. Only cost $625.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Ok, so fitted the turbo last week and all seems to be running ok (smoked a bit while the oil from the blown turbo burnt off though!)

So now I'm planning on getting it chipped. I believe it's worth changing the dump valve - anyone know where to get a cheap Bosch 710N as that seems to be the cheap option? And anyone reccomend anywhere around London to get the ECU remap done?

Thanks guys.

Because you have the K04-15 turbo you will have to have a custom map done as no one in the UK will have a off the shelf chip for it.

Also to get the best out of this setup I would look at getting a set of TT/S3 injectors plus MAF, FMIC 4bar Fuel regulator as this will reap all you can out of it with a custom chip.

Thanks docurley. Was hoping to avoid spending too much money on all this. How much would a set of TT/S3 injectors be roughly? Is it an easy job to change? Would the new injectors need the higher pressure fuel regulator? Think the FMIC is a bit beyond my budget and time scale right now sadly!

This stuff gets too addictive...

Ok i have a K04 on mine and still run the OE injectors and a 4 bar FPR. I also still have the SMIC in palce and the map takes account of all that. I am sure i have more power avalilable by swapping the injectors and throwing in a FMIC but i would then need another map done to use that for what would only be a few BHP.

Depending what engine type you have ,you should find you have a 4 bar FPR already, and also TT injectors etc will not fit a large port manifold ( AE
I got mine chipped @ chipped UK via a group buy on another forum.

Sound like a K03s will be the cheapest option and with a remap you could see around 210-220bhp
