I have been having problems with my passenger side headlight going out. When I first turn them on it is fine for a little bit (1-2 minutes) then the light turns off. If I turn them off and back on again everything is fine for 1-2 mins. All the other lights are working. Is this the headlight switch - if so can I fix it myself?

If it's only one headlight going out, it is not the switch.
More than likely the problem is with the bulb connector. If it stays on for about a minute then goes off, you probably have a loose fork connector at the back of the light, or the contact is corroded. If the contact is poor, the metal gets hot and eventually you loose the connection. The other danger is that if it is getting hot, it may blow the fuse or catch fire at the worst. It is quite an easy fix. A bit of wire wool to rub in to the slot to clean the contac and a pair of long noze pliers or a small screwdriver to tighten the contac slightly to get a firmer contact between the spade connector and ther bulb. Also check that the wires are connected firmly to the connector as it will have the same effect. |
