Question Power Steering Weighting up -PROBLEM-

Hope somebody can help me figure this out...

My B5 (standard 1.9TDi with 125K on the clock) has just picked up a power steering problem: whenever i am applying full lock (i.e. parking manoever) and i am reaching the ends of the lock, the steering massively firms up and the effort required to rotate the wheel to the lock is very high. This has only started recently and i can't figure out why.

So far, i've...
1) checked the fluid - level OK (albeit a little off colour)
2) gone from lock-lock several times to remove air in the system

no change! What do i do next?
