Default Door lock

Hi all,

I have a 95 A4 1.8T Sport and just recently the drivers door lock will not unlock. It will however lock the car! It started gradually failing intermittently and now will not unlock at all which is proving to be quite a pain.

Has anyone got any ideas of anything to try without having to take the entire inside of the door off? And if I did have to resort to that, what do you think would fix it?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Stedders

hey, this literaly just started happening to my car yesterday! I have a 99 2.8q, our locks work off a vacuum. If the pump or little canister goes bad, then you have no operation of your locks. Take off your left back wheel, then take out your plastic wheel well (pain in the ass sometimes) and you'll see a small pump with some hoses and such tucked up inside, check the hoses for cracks, or leaks, check the connections, and theres a canister of some sort somewhere in that same are that i guess holds the vacuum, so check that also for leaks, don't forget about the pump as well. anyways, hope this helps, i have to do the same thing this weekend.

Yeah, wondered whether it was the vacuum pump but it works fine from the passenger side so was thinking it was more something to do with the lock cylinder?

in that case, i'd take the door apart, which isn't too hard, just a few screws and check the switch itself, maybe the wiring broke, or a solder point just got old, i dont know much about the op. cylinder for the locks so i can't really help ya there.

Ok, thanks a lot for the advice. I'll give it a go when I get some spare time and let you know.
