Rebuilding Engine: Ignition Problems
I've been having some problems with some oil leaks on my engine plus I had to replace the clutch! So I ended up doing both jobs at the same time. I replaced the top and bottom oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, and oil cooler gasket.
I put the engine back in the car and reconnected all the sensors. The only thing I took off the engine was the cruise control because it was broke anyways and capped the vacuum line.
The engine turns over (also replaced the starter) so I know I'm good there but it seems that the ECU refuses to spark the engine. Plugging in the engine error decorder it gives an error for the Engine Speed Sensor.
A bit of research disclosed that this is a bit of a confusing error. It is present until the engine starts or if there is a serious problem and your engine doesn't start. I am wondering if anyone knows the outputs for the Engine Speed sensor so I can test if it is broken. Even a wiring diagram or anything. I think that is the main problem because the compenents of the sensor sound a bit questionable when it is removed.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to test the sensor or any helpful diagrams?
Another thought is that the immobilizer is active and I don't know how to disable it. Currently the driver side panel has been removed because I was checking the speakers. I wonder if anyone knows of this being a strange cause for the immobilizer to remain active.
