Default Pretty Bad Problem

On my 99' A4 2.8 Q when I start it up I have to depress the accelerator to even get it to start. When it is started and idling, when I push the gas it hits this snag at about 1500 rpm where it misfires occasionally (meaning about every third time). When it does this, it shoots out dark(er) smoke out the exhaust. It seems as if it is choking for gas the entire time.

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be??

It seems as if fuel delivery is not the problem and it sounds like spark... I would check your plugs for carbon fouling... It all depends on how meticulous you are with your maintenance... Now you're among friends here, so even if you haven't been completely on top of your maintenance, we still love you. I would start there and then trace it down.

I had a similar problem with my 1995 Audi 100, it had a 2.8 and I got over 200k out of it without any problems expect for a cam sensor going bad around 120k. The problem you are describing is very close to what happened to my car but my engine light came on and I don't think I noticed any dark smoke. Any way it was under $100 for the sensor at the time.

Default Consumerguide!!!!

Check Consumer Guide expert reviews and ratings for new and used cars, consumer electronics, home&garden, upright vacuums, and more consumer products and research Used Cars for Audi, I'm pretty sure some of your problem might come from the battery being disconnected (if you have ever?) but they mention something about the throttle valve control needing to be recalibrated.
