Default Engine Check Light Diagnosis

My 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro engine check light was on (not blinking), so I made an on-board computer diagnosis by Firestone. Firestone could not tell me what the problem was and they told me to find the Audi dealer, which could cost me a lot. Therefore, I want to know if anyone can tell me what my Engine Check Code means. It is shown as the following:
16396-Black 1 Spec Not Reached for Adjustment to Advance Camshaft

I would appreciate if anyone can tell me what it means, and if there is an emergency need to fix it. Thank you.

Try autozone or a place like that... that number you posted isnt even a CEL code... a real code should be like "P0562" or "P1198"

I think that's a DTC code, im not sure. For 16396, the P-code should be about P0010 or P0012, A- Camshaft Pos. Actuator Circ. Bank 1 Malfunction

My local Audi dealer will charge me $75 for only a scan...

Do you suggest me to check my car by the Audi dealer or some local auto service companies which may be cheaper but less reliable?

I would suggest you to go to the euro shop, I know which one u are talking about, they are equally reliable, they have been taking care of my car for over a year now. Dealer always charge a high price and try to rip off people when they see them young or inexperienced, and the main thing is the dealer also never take cares for their customers' car, I didn't know that until I just talked to a guy working for the dealer. So, i would say drive less now and waite for the appointment with the euro shop.
