yeah i was wondering the same thing. i was thinking about buying a set of woofers off a friend but didn't feel like buying a new head unit. can you wire the subs to the stock radio? and if i do end up getting a new head unit what happens to the 6 disc changer in the trunk?

It's easy just use a power converter or an amp with high feed input and take a input of the right hand speaker as it as a spare set of conectors to feed off.

a subwoofer can easily be added to the stock stereo. If you take the stock stereo out, you'll lose your 6-disc in the trunk unless you upgrade that too.
The A4 stereos are all different... if you have a Bose stereo, the 2 6.5" speakers in the rear deck are actually subwoofers... you can easily get a signal from the rear speakers, but use a signal from both so you get the bass thats played in both left and right channels (even with a mono amp). Some european A4s have an amplifier thats mounted right to one of the rear speakers, makes things a little more difficult, but its still do-able. Do keep in mind that the circuitry in MOST stock stereos limits bass output when the volume is high, this is to protect the speakers and keep the sound clear. This will make an impact on anything that is connected to the stock stereo....

I have the bose stereo in my 99 A4. I have a 10'' sub wire tapped to my stock audi bose amp which is located next to the 6 disc changer. It was fairly easy to hook up and sounds great with the stock speakers and radio.
